Carmen Suite is a one-act ballet that was staged in 1967 by Cuban choreographer Alberto Alonso to the music of Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin. The world premiere of the play took place in the same year at the Moscow Bolshoi Theater with the participation of prima ballerina Maya Plisetskaya. The original version came out very passionate and frank, so in the USSR the ballet was censored.
"In Soviet times, a lot of things were smoothed out so that the scenes were less explicit. In this edition, some passionate moments were added," explained Svetlana Zakharova, prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia, who performed the role of Carmen at the premiere screenings in NOVAT.
Also, the ballet audience was shown a divertimento — several numbers from different ballets. The masterpieces of choreography of the XX century were timed to the creative anniversary of the People's Artist of Russia Anna Zharova, who has been dancing on the stage of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater for 25 years.
It is expected that "Carmen Suite. Divertissement" will become the pearl of the NOVAT repertoire. And AN-Security guarantees the safety of visitors and employees of the theater!
