Transport security officers in Petrozavodsk received training on using X-ray introscopes

Every six months, Rosgvardia officers train AN-Security employees to use X-ray scanners, or introscopes. They learn to distinguish between the scanned objects by the colours displayed on the device screen. Explosives are bright brown in colour, while metal clusters are blue.

"We learned how an ordinary car first-aid kit could potentially be a bomb packed with small metal objects," shared Olga Volkova, a transport security manager.

The introscope analyses how materials absorb or scatter X-ray radiation depending on their thickness and density, and this is what allows us to categorize the contents of scanned baggage accurately. Shades of red, blue, green, and brown can indicate dangerous objects as well as harmless ones. This is why visual experience, or "practiced recognition", is crucial for inspectors in their work.
